Tie Breaker Procedure
Keystone Cup Tie Breaking Procedure

In the event teams are tied for playoff position after the round robin series is completed, the following tie breaking procedure will apply:

(a) The results of the round robin game involving the tied teams will apply, with the winner of the round robin game between those two teams advancing to the playoffs.  Similarly, if three (3) teams are tied, the team which has a 2-0 record in games against the tied teams will advance.

(b) If teams are still tied after (a), then the team with the most wins would qualify.

(c) If the two teams are still tied after (a) and (b) have been applied, then the team with the best goal average gains the higher position. The goal average of a team is to be determined in the following manner:

Total number of goals for divided by the total number of goals for and against.

NOTE: All round robin games are included.

Example:  Total goals for = 10 total goals against = 4

Percentage     =10     =10      =.714
                        10+4     14

(d) If the teams are still tied after (a), (b) and (c), the team to qualify would be the team which scored the first goal in the game between the two teams.

(e)  If the two teams are still tied after (a), (b), (c) and (d) have been applied, the team with the least number of minutes in penalties throughout all of the round robin games, gains the higher position.

(f) If the teams are still tied after all previous methods have been applied, then the winner of the playoff position will be decided by a single toss of a coin.
